PARTICIPATING ORGANIZATIONS IN PORTUGAL

Presentation
The Agrupamento de Escolas de Fafe (AEF) is a public school located in the town of Fafe. Fafe
belongs to the District of Braga in Portugal's North Zone. The Group is made up of 6 schools: 4 schools offer pre-school (kindergarten) and 1st cycle (elementary) education; one school runs the 2.º and 3.º cycles (middle school) and another offers secondary education, the Escola Secundária de Fafe, with two variants: general courses, scientific and humanistic courses and vocational courses. The Group thus offers education from pre-school through to secondary school. In secondary education, AEF offers several scientific-humanistic courses: Science and Technology, Languages and Humanities, Visual Arts and Socio-economic Sciences.
AEF establishes a strong link with the environment, having several partnerships with educational, social and commercial institutions. The Group's staff is made up of around 190 teachers and 82 assistants, 2 psychologists and 1 social educator. In this project, we want to involve a 1.º cycle class from the Escola Básica de Arões S. Romão. Some students from the three 9.º year classes of the Escola Básica de Arões Santa Cristina and some general secondary school students from the Escola Secundária de Fafe.
Project experience and expertise
AEF covers a wide range of school contexts, from rural to more urban areas, especially where the secondary school is located. It is the only public school in the municipality to offer secondary education. As a result, the profile of AEF students is diverse, welcoming students from all social strata, religious denominations and ethnic backgrounds, as is the case with Roma students. Lately, many students have been coming to AEF from Latin American and European countries. In 2022/2023, in AEF's basic schools, the 73 kindergarten pupils are aged between 3 and 5, and the 177 1st cycle pupils are aged between 6 and 10. The 102 Cycle 2 pupils are aged 11-12 and the 160 Cycle 3 pupils are aged 13-15. Secondary education is attended by students aged between 15 and 18, with 1006 students on scientific and humanistic courses and 166 on vocational courses. The AEF has 1687 students, grouped into 81 classes. In this project, we want to involve a group of students aged between 9 and 10 (elementary), another group of students aged between 13 and 14 (middle school) and another group aged between 15 and 18 (high school) in general courses.
